Thoughts From Our Curators: John and Sherry Petersik Of Young House Love

We’ve asked this week’s curators, John and Sherry Petersik of Young House Love, to share with us their thoughts and inspiration behind their Curator’s Collection event. Here’s what they had to say:

When people ask us “our style” we generally laugh and hunt around for terms that semi-describe our aesthetic. Different words tend to pop up each time, but a few that always seem to work their way in there are: textured and natural. So when Joss & Main invited us to create our own little collection, naturally (ooh look, a pun) we turned to the outdoors for inspiration. We don’t think bringing the outside in needs to be taken über literally or hyper seriously. Let’s face it, not everyone wants to live in a beach house filled with coral and driftwood or a wood-riddled hunting lodge peppered with animal trophies. There are definitely more subtle and casual ways to do it.

We love spaces with a mix of layered textures (from jute to faux sheepskin) and inspiration stolen directly from nature (like distressed wood tabletops and branchy textiles). Combining those with classic and clean counterparts can help to keep it from feeling too theme-y. And it never hurts to toss in some happy hits of color and a little sense of humor (ceramic animal anyone?). Why the heck wouldn’t you top a chunky wooden console with a sculptural modern lamp? Or make a metallic mirror pop against a bold blue woodsy wallpaper? We hope you have as much fun imagining all the possibilities as we did when we tossed this little ol’ collection of ours together!
